How to coordinate outfits to get the best look in your engagement photos.
Urrrggghhh it’s engagement photo session time, what on earth are we going to wear??!! Fear not! I’m here to help! Many couples want a simple engagement shoot however if you want to style it up a little you could bring two outfits to your session so we can get a variety of different looks for you OR even easier, layer up your clothing with T shits and shirts, waistcoats, jackets, hats and scarves etc so we can get a variety of looks without having to go behind a bush and strip!!

I recommend the following:

• Are you a dressy couple?
It’s not every day you get to get all dressed up with the love of your life and take photos together. Use this session as an excuse to really go all out and get dressed up! I’m not saying you have to wear a ball gown and tuxedo (oh hang on, that could look amazing in the right location!), but maybe a dress or skirt for you, and a suit or nice trousers and a smart shirt for your fiancé. This outfit will be great for save the date cards, or the announcement in your local newspaper.

• The casual look
This outfit is ideal for your more fun, relaxed photos. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING about your engagement shoot is that you learn to relax working with me so your wedding day images are amazing so if you’re comfiest in jeans and a cardi, wear them!! Tailored jeans and a nice shirt are always a great choice, especially if we are going to be walking around in nature a lot. Make sure to bring shoes specifically for this outfit, too.

• Coordination is Key
Do lay out your outfits next to each other on the bed – how do they look? The most important thing to remember is to coordinate but don’t match! You want to look good together. Choose similar colors and styles that photograph well together. For example, if you’re wearing a little black dress make sure your other half pops on some trousers, he’s going to look silly in scruffy jeans and trainers! Also bear in mind where we are going and dress for the location. If you are doing a natural, rustic or vintage session, you’ll want to stay away from bright colors and opt for neutrals instead. If we’re heading into town perhaps wear your killer boots and stylish jacket!

• Absolute No nos!!
– Please please PLEASE avoid Logos, large writing and cartoon shirts! They date really quickly and distract the attention from your fabulous relationship!
– Patterns – Try to stick with solid colors or minimal patterns. Check shirts are fine as long as your fiancé isn’t wearing stripes or polka dots. It’s a good rule of thumb to only have one partner wearing a pattern at a time.
– Fluorescent colors – Come on let’s be honest – they were bad in the 80s and they’re no better now! STAY AWAY!
