Including Children and Pets in Your Wedding Photographs
It’s no secret that I absolutely LOVE dogs, especially my very naughty mini dachshund Mash! I also absolutely LOVE including children and pets in your wedding photographs, after all why not – they’re a big part of the family!
Let’s be honest though, we all know why people say “never work with children or animals”! Both children and animals are unpredictable, have very short attention spans and need to be treated in a very particular way to bring out the best of them! Now I can’t talk for all pets (I’m not a great cat lover if I’m honest, their superiority freaks me out a little!) but I do know dogs and absolutely love it when my brides and grooms want to include their dogs in their wedding photographs! The best advice I can give is relax, you know your dog the best! Make sure you know the images aren’t going to be perfectly formal, let your photographer go with the flow and be quick to react with what’s asked of you to get the best from your dog and children!
I recently did a family lifestyle shoot with a very special couple, their 6 month old baby AND their 18 month old wire haired vizla, I’ll be blogging about that in a little more detail soon, suffice to say for this post, it’s wasn’t the easiest family lifestyle photo shoot I’ve ever done! But we got some amazing images and it’s all down to patience and understanding of how to get the best out of children and pets in your wedding photographs coupled with the couple’s expectations after chatting through the informality of the photos we’d be getting.
Here are a few of my favourite images for the last year or two with man’s (and woman’s!) best friend on their wedding day and engagement photo shoot sessions…
